Random Reds Ruminations, Reds 8 Astros 2, April 5

The Reds hot start continues with a 6 run beating of the Houston Astros Tuesday night. Cincinnati jumped out to a 5 run lead with 3 runs in the first and 2 in the second and never looked back. The Reds are undefeated after four games for the first time since 1990, and we all remember what happened that year.

-Hard to pick one offensive star tonight for the Reds as they came with a pretty balanced attack, hammering out 10 hits. Chris Heisey drive in three runs, and only needed one hit to do so. He walked in a run in the first and drove in another when he was hit by a pitch in the second.

- Just to illustrate the balanced attack, Drew Stubbs, Brandon Phillips, and Joey Votto each had two hits in the game. Nice production from the 1-2-3 spots in the order I must say.

-Scary moment for Cincinnati Reds fans as Phillips was lifted for Miguel Cairo in the 5th inning. John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reporting on Twitter (@johnfayman) that it was as a precaution, that Brandon had knocked the wind out of himself on a slide into home earlier in the game.

- Mike Leake made his case for staying in the rotation when Cueto and Bailey are healthy. Leake went six innings, giving up only three hits, and two earned runs. He struck out four and walked two.  He also helped himself with the bat, laying down a bunt single in the fifth, going first to third on a Stubbs single, and then scoring on a Cairo sacrifice fly.

The Reds (4-0) and Astros (0-4) go at it again tomorrow night. Edinson Volquez (0-0) will take the mound for the Reds, hoping to get off to a better start than he did on Opening Day, when he gave up three runs in the first inning. The Astros send Nelson Figueroa to the hill, it will be his first start of the season.
