Dusty shook up the lineup and some runs fell out for the Reds on Monday night. Baker moved Jay Bruce to the 2 hole and dropped Brandon Phillips into the clean-up spot. The result was the best offensive output since they scored 11 runs to beat the Pirates on April 16.
- Brandon Phillips continues his hot hitting of late. Phillips was really the only Red who looked good at the plate in St. Louis, and he carried that over to Milwaukee. Brandon was 3 for 4 with a double, a walk, 2 runs scored, and 3 RBIs.
- Bronson Arroyo looked sharp again. Arroyo went 6 and a third, giving up only one earned run, while striking out 4 and walking only 2.
- The Reds chased Brewers starter Chris Narveson in the third inning. Narveson, who came in to the game with an ERA just over 2.00, gave up 7 earned runs in just 2.1 innings. In that third inning, the Reds sent 11 batters to the plate, scoring 6 runs on 8 hits.
- Jay Bruce looked very good in the two hole. He was patient at the plate, got good swings on most pitches, and smacked a two-run home run to right field to start the scoring in the 6 run third inning.
- If you want to look for some negatives on offense, there would be two: 1) after scoring 6 runs in the third inning, the Reds did not get another hit until Stubbs led off the 9th with a single; and 2) Reds hitters struck out 13 times (Jonny Gomes provided 4 of those whiffs).
The Reds (12-11) look for a series win tonight against the Brewers (11-11). Mike Leake (3-0, 4.94 ERA) goes against Marco Estrada (1-0, 3.21 ERA)
